03 Today I Worked On
General physics interaction.
I got the interaction physics to work properly across the network today. I think it feels pretty smooth but could use some fine adjustment later on. Things you can interact with in the game have a few different flags. Basically just different types. You can use some, such as buttons or switches. Others you can grab and manipulate, move around or rotate. The third flag is for objects you can pickup or put in your inventory. Most physics objects below your strength limit you can play with. If they are small enough you can carry them in your hands or in your inventory, like tools, fuel, small parts, power cells, and so on. I thought it would be a bit funny if you can move more annoying things with a cart, but in practice it doesn't seem very useful. So let me know if this is something you would be interested in even if it's mostly a personal choice to use it.
Other than the possible cart, there will be a pallet jack you can use. I'm still debating if this is something you start with or something you have to purchase from the company. It would let you bring delivery crates that contain extra large items such as an aquarium to the room you want them in before you open the crate, which would make it a lot easier. If you don't start with it, I think there should be a safeguard on the store to prevent you from purchasing things you might get stuck with. For example, you wouldn't be able to buy an aquarium without already owning a pallet jack. I'm open to alternatives. That's about it for now.
Happy Thanksgiving!
